Design and Implementation in Real Time
At no time in school leadership are opportunity and danger so significant as the term of an interim head. Because the occasion for an interim is yoked with transition, change, and often grieving, it takes skill, foresight, and failure-proof performance in order to cultivate a community of hope for what lies ahead.
At this workshop, participants will:
- Work in two three-hour blocks to cover every aspect of setting up and delivering a successful interim headship.
- Understand the cornerstones that must be laid and anticipate the time sensitive nature of when important decisions are made that are nearly irrevocable in the design of the interim work.
- Learn the stumbling blocks that can diminish effectiveness and joy in serving as an interim.
- Become intentional in designing your interim headship.
- Network with others who have completed interim headships, appointed interim heads, and those intrigued by this demanding, rewarding work.
- Build your toolbox to include real-time help and guidance from the SFLC staff at anytime you consider or conduct an interim experience (the SFLC staff can also consult with the school at your request for a separate, affordable, fee.).
SEMINAR SESSIONS:
During the two learning blocks and thereafter in work with us, participants
- Define their leadership in the context of the school, learning not to assume any one perspective and anticipating the persuasive work to be done in the community.
- Articulate each of the steps of the process for appointment including contract negotiations and phases and stages of the year or years ahead.
- Knowing when the “triggers” occur for additional, real time work with the SFLC staff in order to assure quality and sanity.
- Add to the learning experience around interim headships in a unique pool of colleagues.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
- Any head or chief school leader who would be willing to take on an interim role now or in the future
- School leaders who have served as Interims Trustees, Board Chairs, or Search Chairs who will appoint an Interim
